I’m no Alexander Supertramp, but I’m trying, at least that’s what you’re going to think when you hear about my next adventure. Later this month I’ll be traveling to the fourth largest island in the Hawaiian chain, Kauai. I know, I know, it doesn’t sound incredibly wild ‘per se,’ but by living off the land, my travel-mate and I are determined to make it wild. No posh beach-front resorts on this trip; instead, we are backpacking, sleeping on sand, purifying water and eating rice, beans and whatever else we find in the wilderness.
Our plan isn’t dialed in yet, but the initial thought involves meandering the Kalalau Trail along the Na Pali Coast to Kalalau Beach. Once at the remote beach (only accessible via foot, kayak or suicide swim) our options are endless, as there are people who’ve spent months, even years, living in this primitive region of Kauai. I will keep y’all posted as the plan evolves.
